Pronate or Supinate: Rededicate to Running at TerraLoco

Have you ever chased a runaway toddler at the playground in wedge sandals? Not a pretty sight. And kind of painful, too. Or maybe you’ve arrived at the tennis court and discover your tennis shoes are at home? Let me tell you. Regular athletic shoes do NOT provide the necessary support needed while playing tennis. I’m lucky I didn’t break an ankle that day!

It’s the same with running. Whether you’ve been running for years or thinking about giving running a try, the right footwear is critical. Your feet are the only body part that should make contact with the ground while running. Those feet of yours deserve good care. They’re supporting the rest of your body. Whether it’s a lap around the block, your first 5k, or 26.2 miles, you owe it to your toesies (and ankles and heels and all the parts in between) to wear the correct shoes.

NEW RUNNERS

Do you pronate? Do you supinate?

Are you panicking because you have no idea what I’m talking about? Don’t worry. Not only do the staff at TerraLoco know all lingo, they also know how to take care of you. They have classes and group runs that are perfect for new runners & walkers.

The minute you walk in the door, a trained and knowledgeable staff member is ready to assist you.

When you arrive, be ready to run. Seriously, you’ll hop on the treadmill for a running gait analysis. It’s important for the staff to see your body in action to provide you with the best service and send you home with the right running shoes.

EXPERIENCED RUNNERS

For the seasoned runner, a proper professional shoe fitting is just as important as it is for the newbie. Do you have a favorite brand and style you’ve fallen in love with? I do, but I’ve learned that the new season doesn’t just bring new colors. Shoe manufacturers tweak and adjust, and new models may no longer provide the same support and fit you’ve grown accustomed to and need.

Additionally, maybe your running habits have changed.

  • Has your distance increased or decreased?
  • Are you now running on trails instead of city streets?
  • Have you introduced speed work?

All these factors may contribute to the need for a new shoe style. It’s also helpful to wear or bring in your current running shoes. The staff can visually inspect the shoes to pick up on clues that provide insight into your running style.

I’ve been running for forty years, but it was the folks at TerraLoco who pointed out that I was wearing the wrong size running shoe. Most runners need to move up a half size for the best fit. But don’t take my word for it. Head on over to TerraLoco, and let their experienced staff assess your feet and running needs. They have a vast collection of shoes for all types of feet and all stages of running.

If you need to bring the kiddos along, there are lots of fun toys by the back shoe wall so little people can be distracted while you focus on your feet.

And while you’re there, check out the fabulous collection of running apparel AND sassy active wear! It’s such a fun place to shop.
