10 Things To Do When You’re Stuck at Home

cake at home

Home is a wonderful place to be, but we all get a little stir-crazy sometimes. As we all adjust to this new normal, sharing our fun ideas is helpful to us all. To start off the conversation, here are 10 things you can do when you’re stuck at home.

1. Take a daily walk outside

We all know exercise produces endorphins which makes us happy and healthy. The fresh air and sunshine is also good for our bodies and minds. Even if it’s windy or cold, go on the walk anyway! You’ll be glad you did. If walking outside seems boring, pump up your bike tires and go for a bike ride. If you need to stay indoors, find a low-key but uplifting yoga video to follow. There are so many out there!

2. Have as much coffee and chocolate as supplies allow

This is not the time to be worried about diets or eating restrictions. If 1 cup a day gets you through, great…if it’s ten…go for it. Chocolate? More essential than toilet paper–let’s be real here.

3. Light candles whenever and wherever appropriate

Kids love this one too (if they are old enough to be arounds candles safely)! Light them at your dinner table or whenever you have a meal. Light them in the evening and read by the light of a flashlight. It will make your home feel different and cozy and special. Plus, they usually smell great. If you prefer no candles, pull out your Christmas lights and string them up! Play around with the lighting you have to create a different mood in your home.

4. Read new books

That book that’s been sitting collecting dust on your shelf? Time to pull it down and actually read it. Read new books to your kids too. If you can’t get out, see if you can order some online or do audiobooks or ebooks. All of these are great options!

5. Do some more intensive home organizing or spring cleaning

That hallway closet? Kitchen pantry? Laundry room? What better time than now to tackle a home organizing project that you just can’t seem to find the time for. Let’s go mamas!!! Our spring cleaning game will be so strong this year. It’s going to be great.

6. Make a fancy dinner and call it a ‘party’ just because

Find a new recipe to try or make that romantic meal that you made 10 years ago…just because. You and your family are special and sometimes it’s fun to splurge at home. Get out all your fancy stuff and pretend to be at a restaurant! It will make such a fun memory. Maybe even make it a new weekly tradition.

7. Wear makeup and dress up for the dinner party

Just because you’re at home doesn’t mean you can’t get dressed up if you want. If getting put together lifts your mood, do it! Do your hair, makeup, wear something snazzy and just have fun with it. Make the men in your life dress up too! It’s not just fun for girls. The boys like to be snazzy too.

8. Get caught up on ALL the laundry

Who is ever caught up on laundry, right?! Wouldn’t it be cool to say that during this spring cleaning craze you actually got caught up on all your laundry!? Yeah! Let’s do this!

9. Take a drive on a sunny day

Explore the countryside or visit a nearby state park. The drive will be fun and will get you outside a little bit too. During your drive play a podcast for your family to listen to together or just enjoy the scenery with some quiet music on, whatever your family enjoys the most.

10. Call relatives and friends

Use Facetime, Marco Polo, or Messenger call to send video messages to your favorite people. Play games over the phone. Tell stories. Make jokes. Encourage your kids to express their emotions to people they love over the phone too. Friends, grandmas, grandpas, aunts/uncles, cousins. A little phone call goes a long way.

What would you add to this list? I want to hear from you! How do you plan to ‘survive’ and have fun in the process when stuck at home?
