5 Reasons to Vacation with Your In-Laws

Everybody, or almost everybody, loves a good getaway. Vacations are a great time to see other places, experience new things and bond as a family. When my husband and I got married we both shared a similar love for travel. Our honeymoon was an amazing week-long vacation to Georgia and Florida; we loved every minute of it. It was relaxing, peaceful and rejuvenating.

Then, before we could go on another “just the two of us” vacation, we had a baby. With the added expenses of a baby, we couldn’t afford to go on a trip by ourselves. However, my in-laws invited us on their annual family vacation, and after a little bit of thought, we decided it wasn’t a bad idea!

I have a great relationship with my in-laws and really enjoy spending time with them. So, we went on vacation and it was a success. Since then, we have gone on two vacations with my in-laws, and I gotta say, it is a blast. Here are 5 reasons you should vacation with your in-laws.

My girls with Grandma and Grandpa
  1. You can share the cost of a vacation with your in-laws. Not all in-laws can do this, but mine have graciously paid for the majority of our vacations with them. We help with gas and extras things we may want, but they take on the majority of the expense.
  2. Built in babysitters. My husband and I have been able to have alone time on our vacations thanks to grandma and grandpa watching the girls. Also, it is always wonderful to have an extra set of hands for bedtime and meal times.
  3. Family travel makes road trips go by fast. We caravanned out to Colorado this summer and we switched around drivers throughout the trip, making it go by quickly.
  4. You can rent a big house for a family. We have rented houses for our vacations with my in-laws and it is great to be able to cook our own meals, have rooms for the kids to sleep and nap and also have a place for the kids to play.
  5. Memories. My girls have loved vacationing with grandma and grandpa. My toddler still talks about hiking and visiting the hot springs with her grandparents.

Bonus Reason: My husband has a sister. It is awesome to spend quality sister-in-law time with her and it’s also fun to have a friend to have “girl talk” with. We also enjoy shopping together and going on coffee runs!

So, if you are ever invited on a vacation with your in-laws and hesitate to go along, say yes! It can be a great bonding experience for your whole family. Do you vacation with you in-laws? What is your favorite part of the experience?
