Disney+, My New Favorite Streaming Service

girl at DisneyWe are in the golden age of the streaming era. Gone are the days of perusing your personal collection of VHS tapes to decide what to watch or going to a movie rental shop. Today it’s all Netflix, Hulu, Amazon etc… and as a mom, these streaming services have been a convenient and fun way to introduce new and older content to our kids. As of November 12, 2019 there is a new streaming service on the scene, and we could not be more excited! Welcome, Disney+! I don’t know about you, but one of the first things I did when I got home was download Disney+ on my Smart TV. I hadn’t even finished putting all my groceries away.

Let me tell you some of the reasons I am so stinking excited about this streaming service:

  1. We (as a family) can now conveniently watch different content than we’ve been able to before. I was not about to purchase all the seasons of Duck Tales or Mickey Mouse. We’ve built a small collection of our favorite Disney movies, but again, we definitely have not bought all the ones from The Vault. Now we get many of great classics at one very reasonable price per month.
  2. I get to bask in the nostalgia of phenomenal 90s movies and TV shows. The Disney Renaissance Era, Disney Channel shows, Boy Meets World, Mighty Ducks, Home Alone, The Muppets…I could keep going. Trust me, there’s plenty of content on Disney+ from each of the decades, but as a 90s baby through and through, this is the stuff I am most excited about.
  3. I get to share some of my childhood favorites with my kids and stoke the imagination of my own inner child.
  4. Releasing Disney+ in November was a perfect idea. Cozy up with some tea or hot cocoa and turn on the TV for some great wintertime shows that will get us through the coldest times of the year. When we wish we could just hibernate like bears, we basically can with Disney+. Also, it’s flu season. So bring on the sickness! (Just kidding…) Smart, Disney…so smart.

Right now I am loosely making a plan for saving the movies I’m most excited about watching with my kids for weekends or special days, so that we don’t just watch movies all the time (unless we are sick). But I’m not going to judge you one bit for binge-watching all the goodies!

To wrap up, my top 10 picks on my watch-list that I am most excited about (in no particular order) are included below. There’s a lot more than 10 on my list, but here is a start:

  1. Talespin (I remember loving this show as a kid! It’s right up there with DuckTales and Darkling Duck, so don’t forget about those.)
  2. Home Alone (definitely search “Christmas” for some other fun seasonal selections).
  3. Cinderella (and all the other classics from the Disney Vault).
  4. The Muppet Christmas Carol (and ALL the other Muppets!)
  5. The Chronicles of Narnia
  6. Newsies (there are some other fantastic musicals available as well).
  7. Fantasia & Fantasia 2000 (definitely favorites growing up).
  8. The Great Mouse Detective (another one of my favorite movies as a kid that I’d consider in Disney’s ‘underrated’ category).
  9. Pollyanna
  10. Boy Meets World

Also…both Parent Traps, Star Wars, and Marvel!

Okay I think I am done ranting about my excitement. I’m going to go watch Pollyanna now.
