A Letter to My Children After a Bad Day

A Letter to My Children After a Bad Day | Rochester MN Moms Blog

Dear Kyle, Charlotte, and Maddie-Mae,

Sounds like you all had a bad yesterday. I get it.

It is not easy living in a family.

Most children have told their parents they do not love them and/or do not like living in their family. Your dad and I have had those thoughts and said those words about our parents too. It is a part of growing up. Learning to cultivate nourishing relationships takes time, and you are just at the beginning stages of learning about your uniqueness and how your personality intermingles with other people’s personalities.

Your dad and I are still learning how to get along with other people. It is a process you keep on getting to practice throughout your entire life, unless you want to be hermit… and even then you have to learn to get along with yourself.

Relationships are a beautiful part of our humanity.

As time goes on, you will learn to appreciate the delightful side of relationships: compassion, integrity, kindness, and grace. You will also come to understand the uncomfortable side of relationships, too.

Relationships are not always comfortable. Sometimes, along the way we hurt people with our words or actions. This is part of the relationship learning process. The good thing is, you can try to reconnect and heal the hurt with forgiveness. Sometimes people don’t want to forgive; that is okay. That just means they need a little more space and time to heal their hearts.

As you go on throughout your life keep this close to your heart…

You are loveable.
You are worthy.
You are meaningful.

And most importantly you are loved more than you can imagine.

Love Your Mommy
***who doesn’t always get it and thinks you can cure everything with hug
