The Gift I Want My Children To Remember: Holiday Traditions To Love

holiday traditions, christmas traditions, holidays with children,

Every family has holiday traditions, and my family is no different. Holiday traditions are amazing because they build so many memories for us and our children. Now that I am a parent, I have started to pass down my traditions (and my husband’s) to our kids. We also love discovering new holiday activities that eventually become traditions.

Here are my favorite holiday traditions:

  1. Cutting down our Christmas tree. Every year my family loads up the mini-van and we go to a Christmas tree farm. We drink hot chocolate, find the perfect tree, and load it up to take home.
  2. Driving around to see the holiday lights. We enjoy seeing all the festive decorations as we tour the neighborhoods throughout Rochester. This is one of my daughter’s favorite traditions!
  3. Baking Christmas Cookies. We love baking Christmas cookies as a family, decorating and eating them.
  4. Christmas Pickle. This might be a new one for many of you. We hide a small pickle in the Christmas tree and have the kids search for the pickle. The winner gets a prize and the opportunity to gloat until the next Christmas.
  5. Christmas Eve Service. This is one of my favorite traditions. We go to church, sing carols and enjoy lighting Christmas lights. My little girls aren’t old enough to join us for this tradition yet, but I look forward to sharing this special service with them.
  6. Snow Tubing. A few days after Christmas, my family and my in-laws always go snow tubing. This has become a wonderful tradition that allows us to get outside and enjoy the outdoors! My daughters love tubing down the small hill.

The holidays are a fantastic time to create new memories. Traditions are a great way to enjoy time with family, and they are a gift you can give your kids so they’ll have something to pass down to their families.

Do you have a favorite holiday tradition? We would love to hear what it is!
