Clear the Clutter for Good: Simple Home Method

Let me take you back to the beginning of 2019.

It’s the dead of winter.  The holidays are over and the New Year has just begun.  Netflix quietly releases a show called Tidying Up with Marie Kondo that not so quietly takes many US households by storm.  And what perfect timing too!  It’s not uncommon to feel the urge to purge right after the holidays and at the beginning of the year when we’re itching for a fresh start.  I’m not sure about your household, but on an average weekend in January you could find me holding up my socks to figure out if they sparked joy or not.

While we were acquainting ourselves with Marie Kondo for the first time, Rochester MN resident Sara Messina had already made herself comfortable with KonMari method in the fall of 2018.  Carefully following this specific style of sorting through belongings, Sara organized her home category by category by determining if a certain item “sparked joy” or not (a tenet of the approach).   At the end of the process, Sara had a renewed joy for her home and the things in it. Sara’s desire to help others in finding freedom from the stress caused by clutter was so strong she opened her own home organization business this spring called Simple Home Method.

Simple Home Method is the first of its kind in Rochester MN to specialize in the KonMari method based on the popular tidying method developed by Marie Kondo, author of “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying-Up.” Furthermore, Sara is Rochester’s only certified KonMari method organization specialist.

So what sets Simple Home Method apart?

I’ve been there a million times before and maybe you have too.  You spend a whole day organizing, cleaning, and sorting through your belongings. You feel on top of the world!  Only to have it look like a tornado hit by the end of the week.  What happened?

“Most organization systems fail because they advocate a little-by-little approach or because they are not sustainable,” Sara explains. “In contrast, Simple Home Method helps clients get organized quickly, and for good. We partner with our clients to create homes filled with belongings they love and that support their ideal lives.” In essence, adopting this type of approach will allow you the opportunity to clear the clutter from your life for good.

Following Simple Home Method on Instagram also helps highlight the approach Simple Home Method takes by using the KonMari approach.  Sara’s posts are refreshing and honest, emphasizing that there is no need to adopt a perfectionistic view.  She is quick to highlight that approaches and tactics can be modified to fit your lifestyle and schedule.  In one post, Sara shows “Before” (that looked much tidier) and “After” photos (not as organized and a bit of shifting) of her bathroom drawer to highlight that sometimes the finished product needs to adapt to how our items are used and how we interact with a specific space.

What can you expect?

During your personalized in-home organizing sessions, Simple Home Method will teach you how to make decisions about what to keep, recycle, toss, or donate. You’ll also learn how to simplify, organize, and store the items you decide to keep.  This process enables you to make lasting changes that will work for years to come.

Simple Home Method offers Rochester MN residents the following services:

  • organizing sessions in three-to-five hour increments
  • a monthly organizing package that includes both in-person organizing and supplemental virtual support (perfect for those that would prefer to do some of the work)
  • custom organization shopping lists
  • facilitation of donating, recycling or disposing of your items

What’s the ultimate goal?

Clutter and disorganization can leave you feeling overwhelmed. Your home should be a place where you feel comfortable…your own personal refuge where you’re able to relax and build relationships with your loved ones.

Sara’s goal with Simple Home Method is to equip you with the tools and gentle expert guidance you need to find long-lasting solutions for your home. Editing your belongings and finding a place for each item in your house can relieve feelings of stress and allow you to focus on the important work of making memories with your family.
