Each Wednesday we will be featuring a member of our writing team. We hope to further grow our community by sharing a bit more about the women that make up Rochester MN Moms Blog!
This week…meet Heather!
Heather is a country girl through and through. She grew up on 10 acres of rolling countryside in SE Iowa. Over their 7 years of marriage, Heather and her husband (Ted) have lived in 3 different states. But Heather grew tired of the big, grey city so, in 2013, they moved to Rochester (Ted’s hometown) for some green Minnesota living.

1) How do you take your coffee?
I used to drink coffee every morning but now I only drink coffee on occasion. When I do have coffee, I just put a splash of a flavored creamer in it. I am more likely to drink English or mint tea nowadays.
2) What is something you believe everyone should experience at least once in their life?
I am a firm believer that everyone should live by themselves at least once in their young adult years. The time I spent in a place of my own was not always easy but it was a great learning experience. Learning how to be happy while being alone is an important life skill.
3) What is an irrational fear you have?
I have an irrational fear of wasps. This summer we had huge black wasps living in a crack in our sidewalk near the house. My husband keeps reminding me how docile they are… but I don’t care.
4) Favorite way to relax after a long day?
I wish I could say I relax after a long day by settling in with a good book or taking a bubble bath or something else as equally glamorous, but the way that I unwind best is binge-watching a favorite TV show. My binge-watching usually ends in a mid-evening couch nap. What can I say, this mama gets tired!
5) Favorite way to start the day?
I get so much joy from waking up my two boys. I love the sounds of them breathing deeply in their sleep. They feel so heavy under my hand as I tickle-rub their backs to gently stir them to wake. It gets my day off on the right foot when they squint, roll over and hold out their hands for a hug and an early-morning snuggle. Bliss!
6) What is something you never feel bad splurging on?
I never feel bad splurging on food. When I am at the grocery store, I love thinking about what ways I can make family meals and snacks fun!
7) What has been most surprising to you as a mother?
For me, the most surprising part of being a mother is how it has colored how I view myself. I have felt more strongly about my role as a mom than I have about any other position thus far. I was not expecting to feel so defined and fulfilled by my mom title.
8) When do you feel most beautiful?
I am usually a nude lip color kind of girl. But I recently wore a beautiful berry lip stain – I have to say it made me feel beautiful in a special and new way.
