Read to Me: A Minnesota Author Roundup

books, children's author, children's books, family time, favorite books, favorites, learn to read, local authors, minnesota, Minnesota author, Minnesota children's author, Read, read to me, read to me dad, read to me mom, read to your child, read together

I am not native to Minnesota, but throughout my years of living here I have come to appreciate its history and beauty. One of my favorite ways to celebrate and appreciate this great state is through its many talented authors. No matter the age of your child (or YOUR inner child) there is a book for you!

Here is a roundup of our family’s favorite Minnesota authors:

One Dog Canoe by Mary Casanova

Full of lovely illustrations, this rhyming story of a girl who set out on a canoe adventure with her dog (but ended up with a few more friends!) rolls of tongue and into little ears. All your favorite Minnesota animals are found in it and the Northern Lights as an added bonus!

Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo

DiCamillo is also not a native Minnesotan but lives now in Minneapolis and we happily adopt her as a Minnesotan! Because of Winn Dixie is heart warming story of a little girl who brings home a happy, ugly dog who helps her navigate through life in a new town and the loss of her mother.

The Babe and I by David Adler

Baseball lovers will get hooked by this book because Babe Ruth is interwoven into the story but its a gem for introducing the Great Depression to your school aged child.

Crinkle, Crackle, CRACK: Its Spring! By Marion Dane Bauer

Sweet illustrations combined with a nature walk as the wonders of spring emerge in this story.

Going the Moose Way Home by Jim Latimer

A fun read aloud for you a your child complete with watercolor illustrations to spark the imagination!

Up North at The Cabin by Marsha Wilson Chall

This book has something for everyone that has ever spent a summer ‘Up North.” While the illustrations are beautiful, the words paint the real pictures in this story of summer and the magic of being at the cabin.
