As a single mom and Pediatrician, Nicole needed someone who could be readily available and dedicated to her son. A quick online search resulted in the many child care options available to parents, making it hard to know which one to choose. Daycare? Nanny? Au pair? Babysitter? To help narrow her options, Nicole drafted a list factors she would use to aid her in her search.

Due to her career, her priority was to find care that would be flexible and work with her schedule. Being a pediatrician, she was as familiar as anyone with the constant attention and detail that childcare requires, meaning she wanted to ensure a personal relationship with her care provider. She wanted to ensure this person could create a comfortable and secure environment where her little angel would be cared for. Regardless of how secure a child’s surrounding is, Nicole knows that accidents can happen, meaning First Aid and CPR training would be a must. Lastly, considering her son’s stomach could be sensitive to select foods, she wanted the assurance that meals and snacks would be prepared with extra attention.

Considering her list of needs, Nicole was able to narrow her decision down to two options: a babysitter or an au pair. An au pair was an extremely interesting concept; she loved the idea of cultural exchange, someone with in-person CPR/First Aid Training, an agency to work through and flexible hours. After reviewing her needs and costs, she noticed there were substantial savings vs. a traditional babysitter and decided to give the au pair program a try.

Nicole now considers this one of the best decisions she has ever made, sharing

“Why do I think Caroline is so amazing? It’s the hundreds of small moments that exemplify why she means so much to our family.

She is always 100% prepared when leaving the house, necessities in hand, such as extra clothes, snacks, and water. I also cannot say enough about her bringing a piece of her country to share with our family. She shares children’s books and loves teaching and singing songs from back home.

Caroline’s ability to cook, organize and assist has made it possible for me to feel safe and secure while at work. She has also provided me the freedom to enjoy quality time with my son again when at home. Her contributions could never be overlooked, and it’s an amazing feeling to know that our family has grown. Caroline is not just an au pair or nanny, but she is a positive influence on my son, acting as a big sister and positive role model in his life.”
