Rochester Little Libraries

Rochester MN Little Libraries | Rochester MN Moms Blog

Are you aware that our lovely city has an extensive Little Library network?  Have you ever driven through a neighborhood and seen a little miniature house on a post in someone’s front yard?

The Rochester Little Libraries Program promotes literacy and learning through a self-sustaining mini library network in Rochester neighborhoods.  The vision is to grow proficient and avid readers in Rochester.  In the summer of 2015,  40 mini libraries were built and installed throughout Rochester neighborhoods to provide barrier-free access to books for children and families within walking distance of their home.  A focus of the program is on enriching youth who are not currently reached by the Rochester Public Library’s services due to geographic, language or financial barriers. However, these lending libraries are available to anyone. And best of all, it is free to participate!

This program was created by the Leadership Greater Rochester Class of 2015, which participated in a comprehensive 10-month leadership development course led by the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce.  Leadership Greater Rochester was proud to partner with the Rochester Public Library on this program.

The concept is simple: these Little Libraries are available for you and your family to borrow books.  Leave a book if you wish and return the book when you are finished.  You can return it to the original little library you borrowed from, or visit another little library and leave it there when you borrow a book from that library.  Fun!  Easy!
