That dreaded question… “Mom, what’s for supper?”

Well fellow moms, Hy-Vee has just made the answer to that question a whole lot easier! Simple Fix at Hy-Vee is a meal-preparing workshop created to help make putting the evening meal on the table much simpler.  I had the opportunity to participate in one of these workshops and I have fallen in love!

Like most of you, my Pinterest is board is covered with links to freezer meal menus and recipes. I’ve gotten together with friends to put together several meals for my family’s freezer.  The photos of counters full of bags and aluminum trays of freezer-ready food hide a few things though… the shopping, the expense, the prep, and worst of all… the dishes.  The last time my friend Anne and I got together to do 5 freezer meals, it took us more than 4 hours just to put the meals together.  I had additional hours browning meat and cleaning up afterward.  It was a lot of work.

The Hy-Vee Simple Fix classes at the new Hy-Vee West Circle Drive location in Rochester couldn’t be easier. You simply sign-up for the class you want to take and pay online.  Then the day of the class, you come to their classroom, conveniently located in the center of the store.  Sara, the Hy-Vee Dietitian and her amazing staff have everything prepared and ready to go!  The shopping is done for you, the meat is browned, and the cans are even opened!

DISH™ - Dinner Is Solved at Hy-Vee | Rochester MN Moms BlogAt each dish station is a recipe for you to follow, as well as all the ingredients you will need, measuring spoons, knives, and bags or aluminum trays for the recipes. There are even labels with the cooking directions on them for each meal.   You do a little chopping, and a little mixing, and a little chatting with the other people in the class and before you know it, you have meals ready to go for your family!  And when you’re done, you load up your meals and head home – they clean up and do the dishes for you!

Hy-Vee offers a number of classes each month with set menus, but here’s the really awesome thing: you can get together a group of your friends and set-up your own session! Need gluten-free, vegan, or low sodium dishes?  They are happy to accommodate any type of dietary need. Just give your favorite Hy-Vee dietitian a call and let her know what you’re thinking!DISH™ - Dinner Is Solved at Hy-Vee | Rochester MN Moms Blog

Get together with a group of your girlfriends for a couple of hours of talking, laughing, cooking, and wine! (Yes!  They even have wine!)  Celebrate that new mommy or wife-to-be with a shower meant to fill her freezer with tasty meals.  Enjoy a Date Night with other couples in your life to share time together and prepare meals for your families.  Bring your team from work for an exercise in teambuilding and bonding.  The ideas of who to share this experience with truly are endless!

DISH™ - Dinner Is Solved at Hy-Vee | Rochester MN Moms BlogOur lives are busy and sometimes getting a warm, nutritious meal on the table in the evening can be challenging. Hy-Vee has really helped make this process so much easier for us.  My family has already tried two of the meals I prepared at my Simple Fix workshop and they were delicious!  I received the recipes for these meals at the class and I will be making them again!  Anyone want to come and wash the dishes for me?

Agriculture has been intertwined in Mamie Luhmann’s life since birth, as she was raised on a dairy farm, and was a member of both the 4-H and FFA Programs. She went to college at UWRF and earned a degree in Agricultural Education. After a semester as a high school agriculture teacher, she took a job with the UMN Extension as a 4-H Program Coordinator, and completed a Masters Degree. She met her husband Paul at the County Fair. Together they moved on to a small farm and started raising chickens, sheep, and their 2 daughters, Clara (5) and Hazel (2). Mamie is an “agvocate” and loves to teach others about agriculture and farming. Her daily adventures include collecting dozens of eggs, cleaning straw out of her washing machine, using her hair dryer to warm baby lambs, and raising 2 little girls to love livestock and farming as much as she does. When she isn’t getting her hands dirty on the farm, she’s busy with her career as a Training and Development Liaison at the Mayo Clinic. Mamie contributes to the AgStar Women in Ag Blog and also pens her own blog at Blessings Abound.
