Sweaty to Ready – Three Simple Hairstyles for Your Post-Gym Hair

Let’s be honest.  My hair is not so pretty after a good sweat session.  I’ve totally been known to go about the rest of a busy day with my hair pulled back in the same messy pony, but there are other times I need or want to make it look a little more presentable without spending a lot of time on it. It’s nice to have a few quick go-to hairstyles in my arsenal when the need arises, so I’ll share them with you in case you find yourself in the same boat.

Here are the basics to styling my post-gym hair:

  1. I find my wash lasts longer, even through a few days of exercising, if I take the time to blow out and curl my hair after I wash it.  If I let my hair air dry and don’t style it, the subsequent days aren’t as pretty.
  2. Dry shampoo needs to be your BFF if it isn’t already.  This stuff soaks up the oil around the roots, extends the life of your wash, and also adds texture and volume.  And for us dark-haired girls, there is tinted dry shampoo to avoid any white residue.  Post-workout, I let the sweat dry a little (this doesn’t mean your hair is dirty!) and then spray the dry shampoo at my roots and rub it in with my fingers.
  3. My hair tends to lie close to my head, and I’m always looking for that extra volume!  I backcomb my hair in sections wherever I need a little oomph. Then I’m sure to run the comb gently over the top to smooth it over.
  4. I get lots of flyaways.  I tame these bad boys by just spraying a little hairspray on my fingers and running my fingers over the unruly tendrils.

Take the time to play with your hair a bit, and find what works for you!  In the meantime, here’s some inspiration!

Easy Pinned Back Do

This one works best for me on Day 2 Hair when the styling from the previous day still looks somewhat fresh.  And for my 6-year-old and 3-year-old boys who constantly want my hair DOWN, this ‘do meets their demands.

Braid with Side Bun

When your hair is going on Day 3, this all-up style is a winner.  Twist one side down and around the back of your head and meet it with a Dutch braid down the other side.  Pin it into a cute side bun.

Flirty Pony

Who says ponytails have to be boring? The top braid, hair wrapped around the elastic, and extra volume make it fun and different!
