When the winter temperatures are sub-zero, it’s easy to let the weather get the best of you. So I say, take a virtual vacation! Here are a few simple ways to trick yourself into feeling like you’re at the beach. Even when you’re stuck in Minnesota!
*Start the day with a big bowl of fruit – pineapple, kiwi, mango. Yum – the tropics in a bowl!
*Step out of the shower and moisturize with something reminiscent of Hawaiian Tropic suntan oil. I’m typically not a fan of scented lotion but on those bitter cold days, there’s nothing like a little olfactory trigger to remind you of summer.
*Find a fabulous tropical photo and make it your screen saver. Trust me, it’s a total mood lifter!
*Nothing says “beach” like a pedicure. Whether you paint your toenails or someone else does, you’ll definitely feel great with a happy color on your feet.
*Fresh flowers will brighten up a room – and your spirit. Costco and Trader Joe’s have great selections at fabulous prices.
*Pick up a “beach read” from the local library, or download to an e-reader to be immediately transported to the tropics. A page-turning story is the perfect way to relax.
*Need a little pick me up in the afternoon? Stick an umbrella in a fruity drink or smoothie.
*Wish you looked like you’d spent a week in the sun? A spray tan or bronzing moisturizer will really perk up your skin!
*Wanna make a splash? Head to one of the local indoor pools- the Y, an athletic club, or even a hotel in town.
Try one or all these tropical tricks for a virtual vacation. Add a little sunshine to your day without leaving town.
Boosting your spirit in the middle of a Minnesota winter will keep you smiling until spring arrives.
