My Go-To Suncreen for the Whole Family

My Go-To Sunscreen for The Whole Family | Rochester MN Moms Blog

{We’ve partnered with Pharmaceutical Specialties, Inc to provide you with a review of their Vanicream SPF+ Sunscreen. Rochester MN Moms Blog partners with brands and organizations we know will benefit our readers, so we are thrilled to let you know about this local business.}

As a mom of an almost 2-year-old, I still pay attention to a lot of the mom shop talk; you know, the blogs, the threads, the articles, the news stories. I still diligently check when a high chair gets recalled. I notice each and every little thing and immediately refer to Dr. Google to see if it’s “normal”. When I was in the market for a new baby monitor, I checked reviews on multiple sources before I bought jusssttt the right one… obviously an important life decision.

Given the time of year and sunny forecast, the chat has lately been centered around sunscreen. There’s firstly the debate on the best way to apply sunscreen (spray vs. lotion); the ingredients list is also a hot topic. And then, of course, there are conversations about SPF and shelf life and effectiveness in the water. Who knew slathering on sunscreen could be such a debate?

As summer gets into full swing, I’ve spent my fair share of time in the sunscreen aisle. My goal has been to find one sunscreen for everyone in the family: from my toddler, William, who has a challenging case of eczema to me, mom, and my oily-skin. Upon sampling Vanicream Sunscreen, Broad Spectrum SPF 50+, it’s met and surpassed my list of demands.

Made right here in Rochester, Minnesota, it’s free of dyes, preservatives, harmful chemicals and fragrances, so it excels as an option for all skin types. The lotion doesn’t bother William’s sensitive skin at all, and application wise, the lotion goes on smoothly. This is a HUGE difference from the breakouts and crying due to skin irritation during application we’ve experienced in the past. It’s a broad spectrum lotion, so instead of protecting from UVA rays with chemicals, it protects with a physical barrier of lotion. The thick lotion doesn’t leave an oily shine or feel greasy, but it does leave a slightly white glow. However, I’ve found if you first apply your moisturizer, it greatly reduces the white mask look. At SPF 50+, it also protects against 98% of harmful UVB rays.

Another item on my list of demands was how effective the lotion is against water and sweat. I can truly say, once it’s on, it’s on. After running through the sprinkler and sweating through a bike ride hauling 30 pounds of dead weight, I didn’t see any proof of the lotion running or coming off. We did reapply as the bottle recommended.

Overall, I love it simply because I trust it. I know that when we slather it on before heading outside, it’s going to work and it’s going to work well. At a one-bottle-fits-all for our family, it’s my new go-to sunscreen!
