New Store Review: Marshall’s

storefront Marshall's

With all the new businesses opening in Rochester, we have more options than ever for shopping, eating, and relaxing! But, I know how hard it is to get out and check out new places when you have a routine down with the old ones. (Trust me, I have my weekly grocery shopping down to a science, because who wants to take extra trips to the store with kids?)

Here’s my brief review of Marshall’s, to help you decide if it’s worth the extra round of “wrangle the kids into the car seats.”

Location and Hours:

Address: 2234 3rd Ave SE, Rochester, MN 55904

If you are like me, and addresses mean nothing to you, that’s just north of the Walmart South shopping center, right next to Ulta and Carter’s.

Hours: 9:30AM-9:30PM every day but Sunday, when they are open 11AM-8PM.

Selection and Variety:

In case you have never heard of a Marshall’s, it is best explained by letting you know that they are owned by the same company that owns T.J. Maxx. Same concept, similar layout, and the same promise of low prices on a variety of brands and items.

As far as selection, I’ll list the things that stood out to me about each category as I wandered around with my 11 week old (shopping with just the baby and not the toddler is blissful, I tell you.)

If I were shopping for shoes, this would not be my first pick for a store, unless I had a really specific thing I was hunting for at a good price. There is not a huge selection, although what they do have is priced reasonably.

There is a pretty big selection of beauty items, although it’s a pretty random mish-mash of things, so I feel that if you are really wanting something specific you might be better off sticking with a brand or store you already love.

One area that stood out as really having a good selection was the bags/luggage area. This will definitely be somewhere I stop if I am needing a new purse (once the diaper bag stage finally passes) or going on a trip.

The furniture selection is fairly small, I probably wouldn’t stop here if that were all I was shopping for, but there were several stylish and affordable accent pieces that might jump out at you if you are already there shopping.

Housewares, kitchen, linens, and bathroom all had a good enough selection that I would for sure stop at Marshall’s if I were needing to update some decor, find a random kitchen item, or grab a unique gift for someone. There are tons of cute coffee mugs and a few specialty food items that would be worth checking out for any kind of gift exchange, treat yourself day, or to give that person who already had everything.

If you are needing pet items or toys, there are some nice items and good clearance prices, so I would say it’s worth a look if you have time to sift through some things.

As far as clothing goes, there are definitely some stylish and bargain-priced pieces in the baby, kids, and women’s areas. However, there is very little available in plus-sizes, a pretty small men’s area, and nothing I saw for maternity.

Overall Impression:

Marshall’s is a great addition to Rochester in that it provides another option for bargain-priced, decent-quality items. It is a great place for just-for-fun shopping, gift-finding, and a few random things like luggage or coffee mugs. It’s definitely a fun store to wander around, particularly if you are toddler-free! However, if you need a large clothing selection, specific beauty products, or are looking for furniture, this might not be the store to stop at.

I hope this helps you decide if and when you will be stopping to check out Marshall’s!
