First Impressions
I recently had the opportunity to stay overnight at Sundara Inn & Spa with two members from the Rochester MN Moms Blog leadership team. I was excited for months anticipating this special trip (that just so happened to be a day after my birthday). But let me tell you what…nothing prepared me for the experience we had at Sundara.
Located on Lake Delton just outside of Wisconsin Dells, Sundara Inn & Spa is an easy just over two hour drive from Rochester on I-90 East. My team members and I chatted excitedly about the fun night we were about to have. After a quick stop at the outlet mall in Wisconsin Dells (someone, *ahem,* forgot her suit after reminding the others not to forget theirs), we pulled off the main road onto a winding curvy side road and pulled up to the grand entrance of Sundara. Greeting us on the main driveway were over 25 deer slowly winding their way through the densely wooded area. As we parked and stepped out of our car at reception, the first thing I noticed was the utter silence of the area. “Yes. This will do just fine.” I thought to myself.
After checking-in, Ramon our kind and knowledgable concierge escorted us to our brand-new Woodland Suite that Sundara hosted us in for the night. Opening the door to that suite was basically heaven…all of us agreed that we had never experienced such luxurious accommodations. In addition to the beautifully appointed living space (with large floor to ceiling picture windows), the spacious kitchenette, the master suite, and the bathroom with blue-tooth shower, we were treated to our very own patio whirlpool tub with outdoor fireplace. As I slipped into my fluffy white bathrobe and slippers, I again thought to myself, “Yes. Yes, this will do just fine.”
What to Expect
Sundara has been meticulous in ensuring that you have a peaceful and serene experience when you’re a guest at their inn. There are many wellness and relaxation amenities included in your stay including:
- Indoor/Outdoor pool with swim-up bar and fireplace
- Indoor hot soak with waterfall feature
- Infinity Edge Pool (heated year round)
- Suvela Total Silence Room
- Relaxation Room
- State-of-the Art Fitness Center
- Daily Wellness activities including yoga, demonstrations and more
My favorite included amenity is the Purifying Bath Ritual. This special experience is in the heart of the spa area and is a can’t miss experience. As a guest at Sundara, you have unlimited access to the Purifying Bath Ritual. There are several steps to the ritual and each one helped me and my friends relax more anymore. It includes:
- a rainfall shower and exfoliation using the Sundara Signature Sandstone Body Polish
- soothing body mist
- aroma steam
- cooling rainfall shower
- hot pool
- cool plunge pool
- relaxation lounge
All of the public areas at Sundara Inn & Spa are technology free including the restaurant, spa, lobby, relaxation rooms and pool areas. This was a welcome opportunity to put away the distractions, silence the notifications and just enjoy our time. It struck me how the stress seemed to melt away by not being constantly connected, even if it was for a day and night.
The Spa
The spa experience was nothing short of incredible. I had booked a Signature Massage and Body Polish for the evening we checked in. From the moment I checked in, to the moment my treatment was through I was completely tended to and pampered. While waiting for my massage, you are encouraged to rest in the Radiance Room. This room is equipped with cushy chaise lounges, teas, snacks, refreshing beverages, reading materials, and coloring books. During the massage and body polish itself I was completely awash in total relaxation. My massage therapist was mindful of particularly tense areas and I felt no pain at all during my massage and polish (this is uncommon for me as I’m particularly tender to massages).
The next morning, I booked a Decompress from Stress Facial. This special treatment was the ultimate in pampering and luxury. Not only was my skin glowing for weeks afterwards, I felt completely at peace and relaxed for hours after the treatment.
Once we checked out of our room the next day, we were invited to check in as a day guest at the spa. All overnight guests at Sundara are welcome to use the spa before you check-in and after you check out. You will be given a robe and slippers and assigned a locker. Feel free to enjoy the Purifying Bath Ritual, outdoor pool areas (we went for a dip when the air temp was below freezing and felt wonderful), Relaxation Rooms, restaurants and more.
Perfect Get-Away
My friends and I were able to get away mid-week. It was the perfect distance from home, but also allowed us the opportunity to feel as though we had truly gotten away from it all. As busy moms, we’re accustomed to doing it all and then some. As a guest at Sundara Inn & Spa, every detail was taken care of and tended to by someone else. This experience was truly an unforgettable way to rest, while energizing and rejuvenating our souls. Whether you are planning a girls getaway with friends, or a romantic retreat with a partner, consider Sundara Inn & Spa for the ultimate in relaxation and luxury…not too far from home.
